Thyroxine
People on thyroxine
need to have blood tests to check they are on the correct dose.
During the first few months of treatment
this will need to be done every 6 weeks or so until they are on the right dose.
Then it needs to be done annually.
The test we do to monitor thyroxine is
called a TSH test. This stands for thyroid stimulating hormone. It is this we
measure rather than the actual amount of thyroxine in the blood. (The person
filling in your blood test form needs to write TSH in the space next to the box
that says T4)
