Advice from NHS Direct about swine flu

Swine flu

Feels largely like any other flu; makes people unwell for 3-4 days and then they recover. Very few will be seriously ill . Some people are at risk of serious problems, but again almost all of those will be fine after a day or two.

At risk groups

Aged over 65; Children under 5; Pregnant women;

People with the following conditions; asthma, diabetes, COPD, chronic heart, lung or kidney disease

Tamiflu

Antiviral medication that helps people recover sooner than they might otherwise.

Side effects; nausea, vomiting, abdo pain diarrhoea, headache.

Only certain pharmacies supply Tamiflu

(From next week this may well change again and there will be designated drug collection points set up by NHS Havering)
