Treating Blood Pressure
is probably more important that your blood sugar in the long run.Keeping your blood pressure low protects you against heart disease and stroke and most of the other complications of diabetes.
Your target blood pressure is 140/80 or less. This is not always possible to achieve because of the limitations of the drugs we have available. Any reduction however is beneficial.
If your blood pressure is higher than this, or you do not know what your BP is then see your doctor.

In addition to this we now recommend Aspirin to anyone with diabetes who is over 60.
You should take a 75mg Aspirin tablet every day unless you have a history of ulcer type problems with anti-inflammatory drugs. Aspirin has been proven to prolong people's lives by helping to prevent heart disease and stroke.

They recommend aspirin for anyone over 30. We are trying to get to the over-60s first as they are more likely to benefit from it.
